Wrong Wave 7 curated by NuZi Collective

Wrong Wave is an erratic festival hosted by UNIT/PITT celebrating the intersection of music, performance, visual art and publishing. Curated by NuZi Collective (Betty Mulat & Zam Warsame), the seventh instalment will feature the launch of a limited edition publication on Tue Nov 19, and a music showcase on Thu Nov 21. All design materials by Cora Yiu.

November 19 | Zine Launch & Artist Talks | 7-10pm

Join us to celebrate the launch of WRONG WAVE BY NUZI COLLECTIVE, an art book with contributions by Nicola Awang, Amna Elnour, Marv Houngbo, Odera Igbokwe, Nanyamka Lewis, Kafiya Mudey, Betty Mulat, and Afrodykie Zoe. Design by Cora Yiu, and riso printed with Moniker Press.

Artist talk/discussion with Nanyamka Lewis (Black Art Gastown) and Amna Elnour, led by NuZi (Betty Mulat, Zam Warsame).

November 21 | Turunesh, Megang, Venetta, zam zam | 7-11pm

This evening is an intimate music supplement to the zine launch, with admission by sliding scale $10-20 at the door.

Thursdays-Saturdays | Retail Residency: Agony Klub | 12-4pm

In addition to U/P-published catalogues and artist books, we are carrying magazines, music and other limited edition items of the “popular esoteric” released by Agony Klub, a local printed matter and music label founded by KC Wei. Agony Klub will also be hosting an event in December as part of their Retail Residency, details TBA.

Retail hours are Thursdays-Saturdays 12-4pm. Cash and credit card are accepted. (Hours may be affected in late November as we embark on a small renovation.)

The Black Market is organized by Afro Van Connect, creating safe spaces for African Descent Youth to discover their authentic voices through community participation. The Black Market will feature a dozen local vendors, participants TBA

November 13 | Room Journal Issue 1 Launch Party | 6-9pm

For its first issue, Room focuses on the space of the Bathroom. Complexities and contradictions of the bathroom including questions of privacy and publicness, cleanliness and dirtiness, the high and the low, and the ritualistic and the mundane are fleshed out and interrogated by a number of contributors with varied perspectives, including architects, artists, writers, filmmakers, general contractors, teachers, students and curators.

November 15 | Lil Comedy Jumps In Some Leaves! | 8:30-10:30pm

Lil Comedy is a fun hip stand-up comedy show hosted and produced by Andrea Jin, Alistair Ogden and An-Te Chu. November comics TBA. The event always sells out, so make sure to purchase your tickets in advance.
