This week at UNIT/PITT Projects Luminous Books has added a collection  from their Space Library at the Luminous Books|Owl Cave temporary bookshop. This collection includes a selection of moon and space themed books alongside reading lists on a lunar theme provided by both A Coelacanth Press and Luminous Books. The list includes Epitaphs by Ezra pound, A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la lune) by Georges Méliès and Quiet Night by Patricia Highsmith – among others.

In keeping with the theme of spatial exploration Susanna Browne’s A Perfect Day, part of the commissioned series What Future, is an audio file which has been sent into deep space using a satellite communications facility. The signal is expected to persist far into the future, across extraordinary distances, into unknown places. A Perfect Day is being broadcast on the Pitt’s low-powered radio (89.7) until April 27th in the 0-block of East Pender Street.

Also new to the space are copies of Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by English schoolmaster and theologian Edwin Abbott Abbott, describing a two-dimensional world that explores the nature of dimensions.

“Imagine a woman duly decorated, according to the new Code; with the front half (ie. thehalftaining eye and mouth) red, and with the hinder half green. Look at her from one side. Obviously you will see a straight line, half red, half green.”

– Edwin Abbott, “Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions”, 1884.
