Last week of IOU

Our first exhibition at 236 East Pender, IOU, is up until Saturday, July 6 at 5 pm. The works in this show — by Steven Brekelmans, Colleen Heslin, Devon Knowles, Frieda-raye Green, Ben Raymer, and Ian Robert Sandilands — have all changed subtly since it opened on May 17, as the seawater evaporated and mussels and barnacles receded and shrank. The smell of the sea is now faint, almost undetectable.

If you haven’t seen the works in IOU yet, please drop by between noon and 5 pm, now until Saturday. Many thanks to curator Kalli Niedoba for putting this project together, and for convincing the artists to have their work submerged in the ocean for almost three months; thanks also to Sylvana D’Angelo for co-organizing the Art Waste 2013 festival, which IOU was part of, and for suggesting that the Pitt take on this project.

The next exhibition is Whatever This Is It Won’t Last Long, opening July 12. While all of this is going on, we’re continuing to work on the building — by the time September rolls around, the place is going to look very different.
