In the curatorial description of Shannon Oksanen and Valerie Sonnier: In Search of Lost Time, Myfanwy MacLeod highlights Oksanen’s fascination with French film. MacLeod describes this interest as one that inspires the artist’s forays into both film and painting. Albert Lamorisse’s Le Ballon Rouge (1956) and Robert Bresson’s Une Femme Douce (1969) are two pertinent films to Oksanen’s practice and come out of Sonnier’s country of origin.
