London-based artist Mathew Sawyer will present a series of new work in a one-month exhibition and will use the Pitt as a base for a one week residency in the city of Vancouver. The work produced during this residency will be published in book form in spring 2012.

Mathew Sawyer is a London-based visual artist and musician, who lives and works in London and Athens. Sawyer’s artwork has been shown internationally in solo and group exhibitions, including The Distance Between Me and You at the Lisson Gallery, Documentary Creations at Museum of Art, Luzern, Protest and Survive at the Whitechapel Art Gallery and Frieze Art Fair. Sawyer’s work was included in Pardon Me, a group exhibition at the Charles H. Scott Gallery and he has a solo exhibition opening this fall at the Rokeby Gallery in London. His band, Mathew Sawyer and The Ghosts, are signed to Fire Records (UK). They have two albums available: Blue Birds Blood (2007) originally released on Stolen Recordings and Catbird Records (US) and How Snakes Eat (2010). In 2007 Mathew Sawyer and The Ghosts played the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the Meltdown (festival) curated by Jarvis Cocker.

Cate Rimmer is curator at the Charles H. Scott Gallery where she has curated numerous group and solo exhibitions. She is currently working on The Voyage, or Three Years at Sea, a multi-part exhibition series. In 2010 she curated Walk In Here You Are, a public art project for the City of Vancouver. Rimmer was the founding Director/Curator of Artspeak Gallery, Director of Truck Gallery and was a Curator in Residence at the Saidye Bronfman Centre in Montreal. She has a MLitt degree in Museum and Gallery Studies from the University of St Andrews.
