Scarcity Makes the City features Vancouver-based economic geographer Geoff Mann. Looking at how modern political economy affects social relations and our experience of everyday life, Mann will discuss how contemporary capitalist dynamics shape Vancouver’s urban context, and the pasts, presents, and futures that weave it together.

The series will continue until spring 2014, with presenting speakers including Jamie Peck, Urban Subjects, Stephen Collis, and Kirsty Robertson. The series also includes artist-community collaborations by Gabriel Mindel-Saloman and Burnaby Residents Opposing Kinder Morgan Expansion (BROKE); Didier Morelli and the Outreach Alternative Program at Britannia Secondary School; Lauren Marsden and the Vancouver Public Library (and VPL patrons); and Zoë Kreye and Catherine Grau with Dance Troupe Practice.
