October 2013 is a great month for words and music (and art) at UNIT/PITT.

UNIT/PITT at the Vancouver Art Book Fair

Join us at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday October 5th and Sunday October 6th for the Vancouver Art Book Fair. We’ll be sharing a table with our co-publisher, Publication Studio Vancouver. At the same time, UNIT/PITT Radio will be playing a selection of artists’ books in audio form from our archives.

Spaces of Contestation starts now

October 22 is the beginning of a major project that includes talks, performances, and public actions, culminating in an exhibition and publication in spring 2014. That project is Spaces of Contestation/Collective Walks, curated by Mariane Bourcheix-Laporte. The first event is a lecture by geographer Geoff Mann, Scarcity Makes the City, at SFU Woodwards on Tuesday, October 22.

Wrong Wave festival passes on sale now

Wrong Wave 2013: Revenge of the New Puritan is the latest instalment of our annual festival of art bands, music by visual artists, and art by musicians. This year, it is co-presented by our friends at the Western Front, Pacific Cinematheque, and SFU Woodwards, and includes the film Hail the New Puritan by Charles Atlas, participatory dance with Jen Weih and Justine Chambers, installation by Yuriko Iga, and performances by orphans and dogs, Kensington Gore, and more. Pass for all four nights, October 24-27, is $15, here.

Book launch: sinuous by Lydia Kwa

At 7:30 on Friday, October 11, Turnstone Press presents the Vancouver launch of sinuous, a collection of poetry by Lydia Kwa. UNIT/PITT is pleased to host this book launch and reading. sinuous is a journey toward self-realization, against a background of colonialism and displacement, so having something in common with:

God Save The Queen

God Save The Queen, curated by Chris Bose and featuring Bracken Hanuse Corlett, KAST, MaRvIN StRAnGE, and Nigel Z, continues for the rest of this month. If you haven’t seen the exhibition (the one that “exorcises Canada’s post-colonial condition“), or haven’t yet seen the finished version of our new gallery, please visit us, Wednesday-Saturday, noon to 5pm, at 236 East Pender Street in Vancouver.
