Opening Friday, February 15 2013, 8 pm – runs until March 30 at Unit/Pitt Projects, 15 E Pender St., Vancouver. Public hours are Wednesday – Saturday, noon – 5pm.

LuminousBooksLondon-based artist-curated bookshop Luminous Books finds shelter at Unit/Pitt Projects this month. A temporary bookshop of second hand fiction, philosophy and cultural curiosities alongside reading lists and visual compositions exploring paths of reading and creative intersections between disciplines.

“Intersection: first word of simultaneously magical and scientific consonance. Word which I granted the absolute power to link and bind things, according to fabulous logics.”1

A collaboration with artist led book project Owl Cave, based in San Francisco, responds to the internal logic of building and navigating a collection, with extracts from Owl Cave’s library of feminist literature and a selection of contemporary artists’ publications. The curated collection of books at Unit/Pitt will shift and alter with each sale, reorganizing itself to accommodate losses and gains, breathing. Collapsible shelving designed for the project by Charlotte Kennedy (Emily Carr University of Art & Design) in response to the idea of a portable library.

A new publication, ‘TO RIDDLE, TO READ‘, will launch late March taking the form of a cumulative reading list around Vancouver’s artist-run culture with contributions from spaces and projects engaged in alternative activity around the book form and independent art publishing. More details to follow.
