Part installation, part media project, and part social network, Yin Yang Temple builds on Unit/Pitt’s early history as a focal point for art and music, and for musical subcultures intersecting with visual art audiences. Cruz has invited other artists to create playlists which play off both the installation context and the Pitt’s history of fractious interaction with the wider society around it, through its on-again, off-again relationships with activists, experimental artists, urban cultures of resistance and DIY culture-makers.
The installation and listening station is accessible during regular open hours at 15 East Pender Street, noon to five Wednesday through Saturday; playlists will also be available through UNIT/PITT Radio around the clock, every day of the week.
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Patrick Cruz is a Filipino-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, BC. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2010.
