On Saturday, July 30, Publication Studio Vancouver’s storefront residency at UNIT/PITT Projects continues with four book launches. Join us from 2 to 4 pm for freshly made copies of these new books, produced on-premises at 15 East Pender Street, Vancouver.
The four titles show the range and variety possible in storefront publishing using on-demand techniques.
- Re-reading the Riot Act by leannej. This is the first in a series of Rereading The Riot Act books, co-published by Publication Studio and UNIT/PITT Projects, accompanying the Rereading The Riot Act series curated by Anakana Schofield.
- A new edition of A User’s Guide to Demanding the Impossible by the Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination. This freely-copyable book was created in the context of of cuts to public support of culture in the UK in 2010, and is produced by Publication Studio in an inexpensive print edition in the hope that it will be circulated and copied even more widely.
- Natural Progress — a new setting of a Ben Jonson poem, incorporating archival photographs of Vancouver’s historic department stores, by PS Vancouver summer intern Kate Noble.
- A new/old edition of A Bachelor’s Cupboard by A. Lyman Phillips, a neglected 1906 classic of cooking, decorating and entertaining advice for single men. This is the third volume in Publication Studio’s Everyday Library series, bound in handsome chipboard covers, featuring design from the original edition.
